Allegory of Satan (Lord of the World)—originally titled in Polish as Alegoria szatana (Pan świata)—is an oil-on-canvas painting completed around 1900 by the Polish artist, writer, and art historian Ludwik Stasiak. The masterpiece is housed in the National Museum in Kraków, Poland.
What makes Stasiak's depiction so deeply unsettling is that he rejects the traditional imagery of a terrifying, horned monster. Instead, he presents Satan as a polished, confident, and seductive earthly monarch, exploring the relationship between ultimate evil, material wealth, and institutional power.
